A Natural Solution
As the environment around us is depleted of resources and the world panics about carbon emissions, climate change and what of this amazing world, if anything, will be left for our children; we ask ourselves – what can we do to make a difference? We strive to reconnect with nature, to grow food organically and draw our children away from television sets to play on the lawns outside. We strive to connect our modern technology to the natural world so that we don’t become ‘robots’. The Iris Design Studio sells lights – but not just any lights. The designs make a statement; they challenge a person to look deeper than what initially is seen. The designs consider nature, inspired by travels; the designs shout of cultural influence and an intrigue that only the natural world could bring.
In order to live intelligently and responsibly on this earth we have to be open to new ideas, a new way of looking at things and through this innovation comes improvement. Iris Design Studio's designs, such as San Pedro range, show a unique and innovative creation that stems from nature and provides a link to and serves as a reminder of our environment.
Through the lighting designs we return to natural elements. Glass, made from the abundant natural element of sand, is crafted into more than 400 butterflies symbolizing growth and life in an Islas Galapagos chandelier. The designs strain to make a difference and protect the environment by utilizing materials directly from nature, such as glass and metal while eliminating the harmful effects the abundance of plastic can have on the environment. Not only beautiful but also extremely practical the Igauzu ceiling lamp incorporates an energy saving bulb that allows the owner to interact with their environment, moving the light source however they want, at ease, whenever they want. Another design that draws on an inexpensive, energy saving light source is the Olinda wall lamp, a simplistic design that removes the need for heavy amounts of materials but at the same time captures the same elegance and magnificence of a chandelier.
As gardens become smaller and apartment blocks more popular, designers have taken to incorporating natural elements within their designs so that one can be in touch with nature no matter where it is you live. Although the lighting designs found at the Iris Design Studio do not incorporate elements such as reeds, flowers and grasses in the designs the inspiration is clear. Elements of flowers, cacti, sunsets and birds spring to the mind when viewing her table, floor, ceiling or wall lamps.
